Quality language schools worldwide

Canadian Language Learning College (CLLC) – An Interview with Aly Rajab

15/02/2011

IALC’s newest member, CLLC, with schools in Ottawa and Halifax, has built a strong reputation for outstanding quality and facilities in these popular ESL destinations.

Today we spoke with Aly Rajab, CEO and President of CLLC, to find out more about the schools, life in Canada and how they feel about joining the “IALC family”.

Q: Hello Aly, welcome to IALC! How does it feel to be part of this very exclusive group of quality language schools?
A: I am very excited and honored to be a part of the IALC community. I am confident that our partnership will allow CLLC to meet and exceed our goal of providing the highest quality programs and services.

Q: How has 2011 been for the school so far and do you think 2011 will be worse, the same or better than last year?
A: 2011 has shown outstanding growth so far. Our goal was to increase sales by 30% in 2011 and by the end of January we have increased our sales by 25%. I’m confident that we will exceed our sales projections. Along with the rapid growth, we plan to continue to use the commitment and creativity of the staff to increase and improve programs for students making 2011 the best year to date.

Q: You were established in 2003. How have things changed at the school since then?
A: We planned prior to establishing CLLC, to focus during the first three years on (CLLC’s Business Value Disciplines - Master of Two) two important things to shape our business.

The first Value Discipline is “The Client Intimacy”. We: so we gradually built a solid system to provide our students and agents with extremely genuine personal touches where every single student feels he/she is the most important person. This includes very modern and warm campuses designed by our full time interior designer, Silda Sodeen.

The second Value Discipline is “Operational Excellence” which basically means offering our agents and students one of the best facilities in the world but with very competitive prices.

In 2006 and after recognizing our success, we planned to expand but of course with lots of focus on our Business Value Disciplines - Master of Two. It is amazing today to see our plans became reality.

Q: What are your main aims for CLLC?
A: CLLC is committed to maintaining the highest quality learning experience for its students. We aim to adapt to a fast-paced growing industry. CLLC’s philosophy is “satisfy the staff to delight our students” and we strive to communicate a joy of learning and culture.

We also aim to share our success with the communities that we are based in. A community oriented program has been developed and will be put into action this year. We will continue to grow in the future.

Q: From which countries do the majority of your come students come from?
A: China, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Mexico, & Brazil

Q: What are the biggest attractions for students wishing to study English in Canada?
A: Canada offers beautiful wide open spaces with breathtaking scenery. Canada is a safe and economical place to study.

Q: What would you say are the biggest challenges facing your school and language study in Canada?
A: 1-Visa refusal and delay. 2- Work opportunities and lack of supportive law.

Q: Moving on to find out more about you, which is your favourite city in the world and why?
A: Great question! My favourite city is Istanbul; I love the city for so many reasons. I love the museums, the weather and the food. I enjoy being in the East (European part) in the morning and the West (Middle Eastern part) in the evening, it’s amazing that you can feel like you are in two different places within one city.

Q: Your favourite pastime?
A: I spend a lot of my time traveling and promoting CLLC so when I am at home in Halifax, I cherish the time I spend with my wife Silda.

Q: Your favourite meal?
A: Tajin (Moroccan Meal).

Q: Your dream dinner guests?
A: I have worked hard to build a life in a new country. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish and would like to be able to share it with my mother. However, she is afraid of flying so if I could have anyone as a guest in my home it would be her.

Q: Finally, what would you say are the main benefits of studying English in Canada?
A: Canada is a safe, English speaking country that offers a diverse cultural experience while maintaining a welcoming close knit community feeling.

CLLC has schools in Halifax and Ottawa. They provide course for all ages and requirements, from Kids’ Vacation programmes to University Preparation.
