A record 139 agencies and 13 exhibitors attended the IALC workshop in Lisbon from 11 to 14 April 2013 to meet the 118 IALC accredited language schools from around the world.
With three insightful seminars, numerous networking opportunities and spectacular evening events, IALC's 30th Anniversary Workshop was rated by schools, agents and exhibitors as the best ever.
The Workshop drew agents from 32 countries, including 29% first-time attendees. With appointments in high demand, many IALC schools brought at least two representatives.
For the first time, agency and school senior managers attended seminars together: a chance to share business ideas and views on the industry. Dr. Halee Fischer-Wright, co-author of the best-selling Tribal Leadership, led enjoyable, interactive seminars on Tribal Leadership: How leaders & tribes change the world and Building strategies that actually work. Samuel Vetrak, CEO of Student Marketing, presented the benefits of thorough market research in strategic decision-making. Eliza Kruczkowska of Internet Advantage shared informative, up-to-date tips on Effective social media marketing.
Lisbon was the place to formally welcomed the seven members who have joined IALC in the last year: CES (Ireland & UK), St. Clare's Oxford and Wimbledon School in English (UK), DiLit and Piccola Universita (Italy) and Sydney English Academy and Impact English College (Australia).
The 30th Anniversary Workshop was hosted by founding member CIAL Centro de Linguas. CIAL Director Alexandra Borges de Sousa is the current President of IALC, while her father, Renato Borges de Sousa is Honorary Life President and spoke at the Gala Dinner.
César Rennert, founder and former president of IALC, and Tom Doyle, initiator of IALC's current quality assurance scheme, were formally appointed Honary Members of IALC for service to the association.
The Gala Dinner was a climactic celebration of 30 years of IALC, but with a look ahead to 2014, when the IALC Workshop takes place in Brisbane, Australia. Hosts Langports English Language College and IALC's other Australian and New Zealand members look forward to showing agents their fabulous schools and countries.
