ECELA (Latin Immersion) Spanish language school in Lima, Peru is the first language school to become an IALC member in 2008. ECELA Lima is the sister school of IALC members ECELA (Latin Immersion) in Buenos Aires, Argentina and ECELA (Latin Immersion) in Santiago, Chile, and joins IALC as an associate member. ECELA also runs a seasonal Spanish language programme in Bariloche in Patagonia, Argentina.
ECELA is owned and run by a dynamic team of Americans and Chileans. Having established the company and their first two Spanish language schools in 2000, they have now ventured into a new country. So why Peru? Cecilia Quezada, regional director, explains:
“I went to visit Panama and Colombia and had a stopover in my flight back to Chile of seven hours in Lima, so I took a tour and I just felt in love with the city, the magic of the culture, the architecture and the special neighbourhood of Miraflores.”
Miraflores, a comfortable, central neighbourhood of the Peruvian capital, lies on the coast and is one of the city’s most secure and modern districts, with a wide variety of restaurants, hotels, discos, parks, modern shopping centres, beaches and tourist sites.
When choosing a new destination for a Spanish language school in Latin America, ECELA look for a safe location that is attractive to tourists and has a thriving cultural and nightlife. Founded four hundred years ago, Lima is a a city of history, culture and tradition, the centre of which has been declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Its long stretches of beach are popular for surfing and paragliding. From Lima it is a short trip to the mountains and there are regular tours to Cuzco and Machu Picchu.
The Spanish courses at ECELA Lima can be booked on their own or in combination with the other ECELA destinations in Latin America.
