This September, BLS French language school in Biarritz will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of surfing in Europe by hosting Surf Month in the town with whose history the sport is closely linked. It was in Biarritz in 1957 that surfing first appeared along French shores. Fifty years later, surfing has become an integral part of local culture and the king of surf sports is an emblem for both Biarritz and the whole region. During Surf Month, BLS Biarritz will be organising a series of events dedicated to the mythical sport, including a permanent exhibition at the BLS-Biarritz school focusing on the origins of surfing in Europe from the 1950s to the present day, and the chance to meet one of the original ’Tonton’ surfers at the BLS school. French learners keen to take a French and Surf course at BLS Biarritz can enjoy these and other exciting surf-related events by booking a place now for a fun-packed September.
